Why we offer this

NYCH’s Newcomer Youth Program provides a welcoming and supportive space for youth ages 15 to 24 as they navigate life in Canada. Through interactive workshops and hands-on activities, participants build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in their new community.

The program helps youth improve their language skills, deepen their cultural understanding, and strengthen social connections. Workshop topics vary based on participants’ interests and needs—for example, Filipino newcomer youth explored Philippine culture and family dynamics, fostering a stronger connection to their heritage.

Participants also engage in creative and practical activities, such as using multimedia to share their stories, practicing public speaking, and learning new sports. These experiences not only enhance communication skills but also encourage teamwork and meaningful relationships.

How it works

Filipino Club in 2024! Student Video

Students in the The Filipino Club at Downsview Secondary School made this great video to celebrate their year together! The club is run by Filipinx students and is an excellent place for youth to learn, connect, and build skills! Many thanks to the students who made this video and gave permission to NYCH to share.
