LanguagesWhy we offer this
The Canada Connects program addresses the isolation of immigrating to a new country by welcoming newcomers to Toronto, through connections with mentor volunteers.
The program matches newcomers with established Canadians for 1-1 social connections, group activities including city tours, and support in improving English language skills.
Through 1-on-1, family, and group matches, mentor volunteers share information and community resources with newcomer mentees and help them to navigate Canadian culture. Newcomers benefit by practicing their English skills, building their social networks and increasing their sense of belonging in Canada. Group programs include virtual social programs like English Conversation circles.
English Conversation Circles (ECCs) offer a comfortable place to practice English conversation skills in an informal group setting with other language learners as well as native English speakers.
Newcomers will participate in fun trips and cultural events around Toronto, learn new skills, and build their confidence and skills in new and creative social programs. The mutual exchange between mentor and mentee will generate cultural sharing and relationship building and create a welcoming and an inclusive community for newcomers to Toronto.
