FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What if I want to join but am nervous because I am not sure if I have developed my skills enough?
The beauty about this program is we are going to expose youth to a lot of different arts, and they will discover their self within it. It is not about having the skill or being a “good artist”, it’s about being open to trying new things, discovering creative ways to communicate, and having confidence to express oneself, judgment free.
How do we get volunteer hours for this program?
To successfully complete the program participants must attend:
Attend and participate in the different artistic sessions throughout March Break.
Volunteer or Contribution toward organizing and initiating a VOICE Event.*
* Note: To be part of VOICE, you do not have to perform at the event, but you do have to contribute to it. The number of hours provided depend on their attendance in the artistic sessions, as well as the degree of participation in the VOICE event.
What is the Eligibility Criteria?
Youth must be between the ages of 14-19 and CIC Eligible (Citizenship and Immigration Canada), which means they must have an 8-digit Permanent Resident (PR) or Convention Refugee number. Unfortunately, visa students and Canadian Citizens are not eligible to register for this program. Basic English skills are helpful, but not required.
Why are some youth eligible and others not?
Our programs are created in response to identified priority needs, providing community support and culturally adaptive programs to newcomer youth in Canada. In order to attain space permits, funding, and offer the programs for FREE, we must be able to prove we are working with the specific youth demographics intended.
Is the PR number and any personal information kept confidential?
PR numbers and personal information will be kept confidential within the organization. Confidentiality of personal information expressed, discussed, or communicated within the workshops will only be broken if require by law. Youth are assured a safe space to freely express and expose their true self in an environment built on trust and safety.
