Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities (AODA)
Training for Volunteers

The Ontario government enacted the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act in 2005. This act lays the framework for the development of province-wide mandatory standards on accessibility in all areas of daily life.

Accessibility standards

Ontario now has accessibility standards in five areas:

  • customer service
  • employment
  • information and communications
  • transportation
  • design of public spaces

As a new volunteer, please take some time to complete the AODA training at the link below. It will take about 45 minutes to complete.

http://www.mcss.gov.on.ca/en/serve-ability/index.aspx

Please note: if you are a volunteer you do not need to complete the sections for management.

If you have already taken the AODA training, please complete the Integrated Accessibility Standards and Regulations training as a follow up to the AODA.

This training will take about 25 minutes to complete. View parts 1 through 5 of the videos and complete the quizzes at:

http://www.ohrc.on.ca/en/learning/working-together-code-and-aoda

Once you have completed one or both of these trainings, please sign off using the form below.

Training
Section 7 of the Guide to the Integrated Accessibility Standards and Regulation

7.(1) Every obligated organization shall ensure that training is provided on the requirements of the accessibility standards referred to in this Regulation and on the Human Rights Code as it pertains to persons with disabilities to:
(a) all employees, and volunteers;
(b) all persons who participate in developing the organization’s policies; and
(c) all other persons who provide goods, services or facilities on behalf of the organization

At NYCH this training is to be completed by the following:

  • all full and part time staff
  • all volunteers
  • Board members
  • Peer Leaders

The training will focus on the Integrated Accessibility Standards and Regulation and the Ontario Human Rights Code.

The Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation will remove barriers in three areas:

  • transportation — making it easier for people with disabilities to get to where they need to go
  • employment — expanding Ontario’s labour pool and welcoming people with disabilities into more workplaces, and
  • information and communications — giving people with disabilities access to more of the information we all depend on

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact BesmaThank you for your cooperation.
