I appreciate your encouragement to volunteers, it is so important for us; we have to pass the attitude to our newcomer friends to let them feel more confident.
We love our volunteers! At North York Community House, volunteering provides a valuable resource to the agency, its members, staff, participants and community. Without the skill, generosity and commitment of our many volunteers, it would be impossible to maintain the range or quality of our services. We are very grateful to our amazing volunteer team!
There are many benefits to volunteering at North York Community House, including:
- Knowing you have helped to support others in the community
- Attending monthly workshops to gain new skills and knowledge
- Having fun and meeting new people
- Increasing your knowledge of social and immigrant issues
- Enjoying opportunities to share your skills, knowledge and experience with others
- Receiving a reference letter for your volunteer work
We are always looking for new volunteers to support us in different ways:
Volunteer Mentors – working with newcomers to enhance their language skills and networking through group facilitation and one-to-one mentoring.
Program Volunteers – assisting staff in our programs with childcare, greeting and registering participants, individual and group support, and more
Virtual Volunteers – working off-site to support NYCH with technological needs, such as website support and with social media
Marketing & Development – support NYCH with projects by providing marketing, communications and/or business development assistance
Board of Directors – NYCH is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are looking for new members with skills in fundraising, strategic planning, communications and small business development.
Committee Members – joining one of the various committees that support initiatives across NYCH, such as fundraising, communications, and business and enterprise development
Other? – let us know if you have an idea for a volunteer role or project – we’d love to discuss it!
NYCH delivers monthly volunteer orientation sessions, as well as additional workshops to support our volunteers.
