Most of us have fond childhood memories of enjoying time with our families, playing with friends, going to school – being free to laugh, learn, explore and dream. Imagine being a newcomer child or youth, who can’t speak the same language as their neighbours, who finds it hard to make friends, and who is surrounded by people and places that are unfamiliar. Newcomer children and youth often grow up with different cultural expectations and values than their parents, with the added pressure to respect their heritage. They often have to interpret for their parents, who are struggling newcomers themselves.
NYCH offers support and services for newcomers to Canada of all ages.
